Les Rambaud This was my host family, the Rambauds - Thomas, Jean-Louis, Chlotilde, Lucy, and Christophe. They also have another daugher, Céline, who did not live with them. They had some real misfortune after I left. First, Christophe was killed in a motorcycle accident, and not long afterwards, Céline was caught in an avalanche while skiing in Argentina and lost several toes. Since she was a professional ballerina, this was catastrophic for her. Also, one of her friends died in the avalanche.

Charolette and Karen The gal in the middle was a great friend of mine, Karen Goode, from New Jersey. She attended IES with me the first semester. On the right in the picture is Charolette Tallent, a missionary who helped lead the Eglise Baptiste Libre. We had weekly Bible studies at her house and she was a fun person to be with. On the left is Karen's mom who came to visit over the Christmas break.

Christele, Karen, and parents One weekend, Karen and I took the train up to Brest with Christèle (my best french friend - middle back) to spend the weekend with her parents. They took us to several small towns in Brittany including Quimper (famous for pottery), Locronan, and Chateaulin. We had to play Monopoly, of course, and I got my first taste of real french chocolates - the kind filled with alcohol! I wasn't expecting "framboise" to mean "franboise liqueur!" Christèle's parents got a good laugh out of that.
